About Rabbi Dr. David Mescheloff
Rabbi David Mescheloff was ordained as an Orthodox Jewish rabbi by Rabbi Aaron Soloveichik may the memory of the righteous be for a blessing in 1968, and he moved to Israel in 1973. The Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Abraham Kahana Shapira may he live a long and happy life conferred upon him a certificate entitling him to serve as a community rabbi in Israel, on behalf of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. Similarly, the following Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau may he live a long and happy life conferred upon Rabbi Mescheloff a certificate entitling him to serve as an urban neighborhood rabbi in Israel, on behalf of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.
Rabbi Mescheloff served actively in the Israeli rabbinate, as Rabbi of Kibbutz Beerot Yitzhak for seven years, and as a neighborhood Rabbi in Kiryat Ono for three years. Then, and as a private citizen, Rabbi Mescheloff was active for many years in the areas of kashruth, Jewish civil law, and Jewish marital law, both in theoretical, educational and practical aspects of these issues. A premarital contract he authored (published in Tehumin vol. 21) was approved by the Rishon Lezion, Rabbi Shlomo Amar may he live a long and happy life and has been in use for several years. He also performs weddings and implements a unique program in Israel for preparing couples for marriage.
Rabbi Mescheloff writes, translates and edits articles in a variety of areas, and has published numerous articles in the areas of Jewish law, Jewish thought and education. He has taught and teaches courses and special lectures in a wide variety of settings, in various topics of Jewish law and Jewish thought, with an emphasis on Jewish life in contemporary Israel. He has served as school rabbi and coordinator of school rabbis in various high schools, on behalf of the Ministry of Education. Rabbi Mescheloff also holds several higher academic degrees, and served as lecturer in mathematics at Tel Aviv University for ten years, and as lecturer in Talmud at Bar-Ilan University for fourteen years.
Rabbi Mescheloff lives in Moshav Hemed with his wife, Irene, who practices psychotherapy in clinics in Bnei Brak and in Moshav Hemed. They have been blessed with five children and eighteen grandchildren may their number increase, and may G-d bless and protect them!
