Answer 10 out of the questions, your choice.
Each student should work ALONE.

1. Find 5 articles on a topic that you choose.
Format them properly for a JCT bibliography.
Be sure the articles are good for the topic.

sample topics:

* physics education
* Grace Hopper
* women in computing
* urban legends
* Florence Nightingale

You may use any database, including Medline, Proquest ABI Inform, Proquest Nursing, Google Scholar, or whatever.

2. Find 5 books on a topic that you choose.
Format them properly for a JCT bibliography.
Be sure the books are good for the topic.

You may use any library catalog (JCT, Israel Union List or other) or book seller (Amazon, Barnes and Noble or others).

3. Make a list of techniques used in data mining. Use either Berry's book (look up the details yourself!) or ask "The Seven Dwarves" to help you...

4. Write a page about Edward Tufte's work or theories.

5. Zongker, Doug
Source: Annals of Improbable Research
Volume 12, Number 5
September-October 2006

Find this article. Fix the missing parts of the bibliography (citation).
Then summarize the article.

6. Go to Musipedia or a similar site and find a melody that sounds like Hatikva.

7. Make a list of articles that cite:
B. Martin, "Plagiarism: a misplaced emphasis",
_Journal of Information Ethics_, Vol. 3, No. 2, Fall 1994, pp. 36-47.

8.Write a page about Eugene Garfield (founder of The Institute for Scientific Information), some of his theories,
or what is the citation index and how does it work? You may use Wikipedia for background but do not copy from there.

9. Take a name of someone in your family (or a friend or neighbor), and find people of that name in the Yad Vashem database.
Make a group of a few people who are related or that their testimony page was written by the same person.

10. Pigmaei gigantum humeris impositi plusquam ipsi gigantes vident
What does this mean and what does it have to do with our course?

11. Find a case study of a data mining project. You may use either Berry's book (look it up in the Tal Library) or use ABI Inform. Summarize the case.

12. Summarize some of the techniques used in indentification of musical melodies.

Please send me the completed exam (not parts).
You can also send me a printed copy in the internal JCT mail.
When I have received it I will reply with "received".
Please wait 24 hours before re-sending or phone me before re-sending.
Be sure you put your name on your exam - not just on the email address.
The time limit for this exam is one month after the end of the course.
For reference - use the entire course website.
If I have time, I will look at the first exams I receive and help the student improve her exam.
G-d help you if I find out that you cut/pasted from the Internet or otherwise plagiarized.
